The emergency replacement of the I-35W bridge over the Mississippi River was achieved with a fast-track design-build schedule. The new modern 10-lane bridge includes twin 1,223’ structures with 504’ main spans. This bridge uses high-strength concrete, multiple levels of redundancy, and smart bridge technology. The theme of “Arches, Water, Reflection” was created to respect the area’s surroundings and history and the architecture of nearby bridges and buildings. Close coordination of the design-build team led to the successful completion of this bridge three months ahead of schedule and under budget.
