Natchez Trace Parkway Arches
Franklin, Tennessee
Owner: National Park Service / Federal Highway Administration
Design / Construction Engineering and Inspection: FIGG
America’s first precast concrete segmental arch bridge carries the historic Natchez Trace Parkway between Nashville, Tennessee and Natchez, Mississippi. An arch structure was selected for the crossing in order to preserve the natural beauty of the area and provide a structure that blends with the surrounding terrain. The 582’ symmetrical main span arch over Tennessee Route 96 and the 462’ span of the second asymmetrical arch make this double arch bridge visually pleasing. This artful bridge demonstrates that elegant aesthetics can be achieved within a cost-effective budget.
