I-90 Dresbach Bridge
La Crescent, Minnesota and La Crosse, Wisconsin
Owner: Minnesota Department of Transportation
Design / Construction Engineering and Inspection: FIGG
This new four-lane bridge across the Mississippi River includes 1,666’ long twin, post-tensioned box girder units with 508’ long main spans over the navigational channel. Utilizing efficient, long spans resulted in a smaller permanent bridge footprint for the best environmental stewardship and greatest economy. The bridge was built from above, eliminating the need for large ground- and water-based equipment while maintaining commercial and recreational river traffic. Aesthetic features such as pier shape, railing details, bridge color, and wall treatments were developed through a series of community meetings with the Visual Quality Committee.
