I-76 Allegheny River Bridge

Oakmont, Pennsylvania

Owner: Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission

Design / Construction Engineering and Inspection: FIGG

The I-76 Allegheny River Bridge replaced an aging steel structure with a new, long span concrete bridge. The twin 2,350’ long structures were built on an alignment parallel to the existing turnpike and feature 532’ main spans over the Allegheny River. It is the first cast-in-place concrete segmental bridge in Pennsylvania. Aesthetic features were developed in an Owners’ charette. The design was inspired by the site’s landscape and includes a variable depth superstructure and a stone pattern on the twin wall piers.
