Honolulu Rail Transit Project

Honolulu, Hawaii

Owner: Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation

Superstructure Design / Construction Engineering: FIGG

Phases 1 & 2 of the Honolulu Rail Transit Project encompass the first 10 miles of an elevated rapid transit guideway. The concrete segmental structure has a minimal footprint and was built using span-by-span and balanced cantilever techniques, reducing the amount and duration of work on the ground while keeping traffic moving. This much-needed infrastructure asset is a sustainable and functional work of art. Its theme, local Hawaiian culture, is reflected in artistic reliefs that wrap the supporting columns at light rail stations, providing enjoyable views for transit users.
