FIGG is Engineer of Record for the precast concrete segmental superstructure design for 9 miles of elevated structure. A 2.3-mile section of the system was built in the middle of the existing median of the Van Wyck Expressway, an extremely congested six-lane highway bordered by residential and commercial properties. The erection methods and four erection trusses designed by FIGG allowed construction to efficiently proceed with minimal disruption to traffic. Construction of the segmental structure was completed in 27 months, three months ahead of schedule.
